New Music Review: BLACK REUSS ‘Metamorphosis’

Rating: 7 out of 10.

7 /10

REVIEW – Starting off with a haunting piano solo before diving into soaring guitars sets the stage for the opening track “Incomplete” on the new album, Metamorphosis, by Doom Metal artist BLACK REUSS. BLACK REUSS hails from Switzerland bringing a solid album that never disappoints.

The second track “Grief” follows with shredding guitar riffs and rolling drum beats. The song transcends into a melodic tone about midway through before returning to the guitars and strong vocals to finish out the song. “Zeal” Is another gem on the album that showcases fierce energy with a solid guitar solo and rolling drums behind at the start before segueing to Black Reuss’s melodic vocals. “Mind” never lets go of the energy once the guitars and drums are rolling, starting off frenetic before heading into a steady beat. “Mind” keeps the listener along for the ride.

‘Metamorphosis’ is the first album for BLACK REUSS. BLACK REUSS is a life flow of a man who describes his life change and life flow through music. Life is like a river, always moving, mostly downward.

The name comes from the river Reuss, a Swiss river that rises in the Gotthard massif in the middle of Switzerland, where BLACK REUSS resided during the writing of ‘Metamorphosis’.

Stylistically, BLACK REUSS is himself in heavy metal with a hint of somberness and a particular heaviness, the heaviness that has remained BLACK REUSS his whole life.

This album is worth a listen to and will find yourself coming back to time and time again.
