REVIEW – Coming out of Australia comes the post punk duo, Night Tongue with their new 3 track EP titled, Achelous & Melpomene. The group is now based out of Los Angeles and consists of the following members: Carisa Bianca Mellado: Vocals, Bass, Synths and Andrew Dalziell: Vocals, Guitar, Drums, Cello. Embracing the styles of post-punk, gothic, and darkwave comes an EP with love and chilling resonance.

The first track, “Nautical Heart,” is a dynamic, enchanting song that draws the listener in immediately. Carisa’s vocals are soft and reminiscent of The Cocteau Twins. The next track, “The Gate,” starts off slowly with a sharp guitar solo before delving into Dalziell’s deep, haunting voice. The final track, “Heiros Gamos,” ends on a peaceful instrumental note.

The duo have worked with many greats: David J (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets), White Magic, Steve Albini, Brian Chase (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Eric Erlandson (Hole), Nora Keyes (Centimeters), Gitane Demone and Rikk Agnew (Christian Death) and Nick Hudson of the Academy of Sun. Carisa currently sings with renowned experimental doom band Asva with G. Stuart Dahlquist (Sun O, Burning Witch, Goatsnake). Their 10″ EP Achelous + Melpomene conveys the tale of the birth of the Sirens in Southern Italy, mothered by the Muse of Tragedy, Melpomene and fathered by the ancient underworld God of the oceans Achelous.
